Breaking down 3 things Modern Agents do differently (& sharing how real members actually do them!)

I was recently at an event and got introduced to someone new.. Here’s how the conversation went in a nutshell:

“Have you read any good books lately?” 

“Nope, sorry I don’t read.”

“Oh, that’s okay! Have you binged any good TV shows?” 

“No, I don’t watch TV either.”

“Well what do you like to do in your free time?” 

“Oh, not much.”

ME: Takes large gulp of wine and excuses myself for the restroom

You know the kind of conversation you get out of and immediately text your best friend about then head straight for the bar to refill your wine glass (thank God that is over!!)

It’s uncomfortable to have conversations like these but what on earth does this have to do with modern agents selling more houses? 

I’m getting there…

So there’s a way to do social media that builds connections FIRST (and with the right people!) 

And there’s a way that makes people feel un-comfy and awkward the second they come across your account. (like running to refill their wine glass and never come back style)

But if we truly want to use social media to build a personal brand (the kind people remember and refer) and ultimately grow our business, we have to approach it with a connections first mentality! 

Which brings me to the entire point of this email – 3 things modern agents are doing differently that help them connect first on instagram (and ultimately sell more houses)!

Because if you want someone from Instagram to refer you to a friend or hire you to sell their house, you can’t have them running from your account for a refill and never wanting to come back.

You want them to go refill their glass but stay and hangout! So here’s how modern agents are doing it:

  1. They put their own spin on social media
  2. They look for connections (not just clients)
  3. They don’t take themselves too seriously

Let’s talk details, shall we?

Anyone can share “6 steps to buying a house by Summer” – we know that!

And that isn’t the content that will separate you from every other agent on instagram.. (it doesn’t matter how aesthetically pleasing the graphic is or how good the audio is that you paired with the reel) 

The biggest thing you can do to differentiate yourself from any other agent in your market is to be YOU.

I KNOW, this sounds too easy (a little cheesy) and at the same exact time, you’re probably wondering: BUT HOW?!

Here’s the truth we all need: When you share the most mundane parts of your life, they become the most magnetic parts of your brand (PINKY PROMISE)! 

Because if you want to see conversions on social media, you first have to have *connections*

And if you want people to stick around, to come back, to share your content and to consume more of it, they need to first RELATE to what you’re sharing (aka: CONNECT WITH IT)!

Which brings me to the most important part: Stop being afraid to share beyond the houses for sale and the tips for buyers and sellers

Share this stuff too:

the coffee shop you always meet clients at (and what you get to drink)

the Bluey episode you turned on for your 2 year old while you wrote an offer

the sheet pan dinner that turned out amazing and only took 15 minutes after a busy day of showings

the cute house you saw on your walk this morning before heading to the office

the story about the house your buyers found

the book you’re reading when you finally wind down for the night (or in-between appointments because you just can’t put it down)

the new local restaurant you and your husband try for date night….

GETTING STARTED IS THAT EASY ^^^  you’re sharing content you’re already living! (you just have to get in the habit!!)

And when you share content like that ^^^ you attract such better fit followers (and eventually, clients). 

Because it’s not awkward!

They’re not trying to get away as fast as they can

They WANT to be in your community

They WANT to know more

They WANT to work with YOU!

That is where you create connections

That is where you attract the right fit followers

That is where you see success

Oprah once said: “THE SINGLE GREATEST WISDOM I THINK I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS THAT THE KEY TO FULFILLMENT, SUCCESS, HAPPINESS AND CONTENTMENT IN LIFE IS WHEN YOU ALIGN YOUR PERSONALITY WITH WHAT YOUR SOUL ACTUALLY CAME TO DO.” 

And if that’s sell real estate for you, then it’s time to pop in that (what you probably think is boring) personality!
