What is the last show you binge watched?

Something new or a tried and true comfort series?

I’m usually in the ballpark of tried and true comfort series (insert: FRIENDS, Big Bang Theory, Gilmore Girls, New Girl) BUT last week I tried a new Netflix series: My Life With the Walter Boys and I LOVED IT! (Donna from Suits is the mom and she is just THE BEST).

While binge watching a whole series in one sitting is great, have you ever tried introducing *series* into your content strategy?

There are SO many benefits to series style content – the number 1 being that it is a great method for standing out from the noise.

It give people the ability to easily binge your content (and who doesn’t want binge worthy content that keeps people hooked just like a new Netflix series)?

In fact, according to Dr. Renee Carr, Psy.D, a clinical psychologist, says the reason why we want to watch episode after episode of something is due to the chemicals being released in our brain. “When engaged in an activity that’s enjoyable such as binge watching, your brain produces dopamine,” she explains. “This chemical gives the body a natural, internal reward of pleasure that reinforces continued engagement in that activity. It is the brain’s signal that communicates to the body, ‘This feels good. You should keep doing this!’ -Read the full article here

That same effect can happen with series style content (in shorter, choppier bites)!

Here are some of my favorite reasons for using series style content in my marketing (and why you should try it too)!

-It’s a great way to get back to being consistent or get yourself consistent in the first place

-It creates the cliffhanger effect that keeps people hooked just like where they want to watch the next episode of that new show

-It gets people to follow along and increases engagement

-It gives your content a longer life span

-It’s a fun and strategic way to kick off a new season, a new year or a specific holiday

-It helps you stand out from the noise

-It’s a great way to test out a new topic

-You can make yourself known for a specific topic by making a splash with a series

-You can speak super clearly to your ideal client

-You can use it to ramp up excitement around a specific offer or topic

-You can take a long form piece of content that you already have and break it up into series style content

-It can make your content more cohesive if you’ve been all over the place

There are so many fun and strategic reasons to use series style content! (Did I mention that it makes your content a lot more fun to create while also super intentional too?) Okay, I’m done!

But don’t worry, I won’t leave you hanging. Here are 7 ways you can use series style content in your marketing RIGHT NOW!

1 – Create a multi part reel series

2 – Run a challenge that is mapped out over several days – this could be for current members/clients/students or to get new ones in the door! I’ve done both!

3 – Try a story series (could be a daily prompt) / then add each day to a story highlight where people can catch up

4 – Write an email series to your email list to increase open rates or get people re-engaged

5 – Create a series style lead magnet – this could be an email or video series that acts as a lead magnet

6 – Create an onboarding series for a new client / student / member

7 – Record a podcast series to make a splash about a specific topic or break a juicy topic up into more episodes (I ran a series: “How Modern Agents Make More Money” during my last membership launch at Modern Agent Social Club – you can listen to it on Episodes 31, 32 & 33 of Marketing Bar Podcast).
